The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) has been awarded a federal grant of just over $1.2 million for safety improvements to Highway 55 south of Eagle Butte.
The grant is one of 70 awarded to tribal governments totalling $21 million. The funds must be used specifically for road safety projects and come from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation's Tribal Transportation Safety Fund.
