Timber Lake weather observer Joe Scherer retiring June 1

Joe Scherer, who has been recording temperatures and precipitation at Timber Lake for nearly 20 years, is retiring from the volunteer post effective June 1.National Weather Service spokesperson Scott Doering told the Topic this week that the NWS is looking for someone to replace Scherer.

TL school district board election set Tuesday, June 3

The Timber Lake School District will hold its school board election on Tuesday, June 3, in all voting precincts. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Eight candidates are vying for two, three-year terms on the board.

County Commission okays sod mulcher for Highway Dept.

In a very brief telephone meeting on May 21, the Dewey County Commissioners authorized Highway Supt. Will Wiedmer to purchase a sod mulcher which attaches to a road grader to cut down high windrows on county roads.

U.S. Highway 12 closed between Morristown -Watauga

As of May 15, the construction zone on U.S. Highway 12 between Morristown and Watauga is closed. The highway will remain closed until weather conditions improve. Dirt grade must be dried to a stable condition before reopening.Flaggers are in place at the Highway 12 and S.D.
