Escape from custody sends Eagle Butte man back to prison

A 44-year-old Eagle Butte man was sentenced last week to serve a year in federal penitentiary after being convicted of escaping custody.Lawrence Oakie was sentenced to one year in federal prison and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Corson County Sheriff Alan DaleMarch 2311:06 a.m. conducted a traffic stop on Highway 12, four miles east of McLaughlin. Upon approach the deputy smelled the odor of raw marijuana. A probable cause search revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The K4J children’s choir from Holy Cross Church performed at the Spring Sing on March 29. The annual event is sponsored by the three Timber Lake churches and was hosted by New Hope Church.
