One of the sessions for elementary students at Timber Lake School’s Native American Day on October 10 was Lakota storytelling next to a tipi set up in the Healing Hands garden. Michelle and Dave West were the presenters.

Condition of streets brought to Timber Lake board

Lilian Turcotte and Sheila Scherer brought the issue of city streets to the Timber Lake City Board meeting on October 5. They said they travel to a lot of small towns and notice that many of them have nice roads.

Checkpoints

Sobriety checkpoints are scheduled in 16 counties during October to encourage people to not drink and drive.

New roof for Legion building

Three businesses are paying for a new roof for the American Legion building, which has housed West Dakota Health Center on Main Street in Timber Lake since 1996.

Budgets approved and published

At a special meeting on September 29, the Dewey County Commissioners approved the 2023 budget, which totals $3,056,336. The tax levies were set at $1,172,148. Details of the budget and other business at the special meeting are on page 16.

US DISTRICT COURT

September 23, 2022 Dominic Houston, 24, of Eagle Butte was indicted by a federal grand jury for felon in possession of a firearm. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on September 20, 2022, and pled not guilty.
