Maxwell Viking Peacock’s art can be viewed closer to his home at Dupree now that his second gallery showing is going on at the Waterfront Gallery in Pierre. Jennifer Kantz, gallery owner, invited Peacock to show and sell his work there and the opening for the show was on Saturday, June 11.

Deputy hired

Jeff Ward of Timber Lake has been hired as a Dewey County Deputy Sheriff, filling the vacancy created when Ashley Arpan was promoted from deputy to Dewey County Sheriff last month. Both Ward and Arpan are candidates for sheriff in the November 8 general election.

After a two year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dupree's Pioneer Days community celebration returns this Friday through Sunday, June 24-26, with a huge line-up of events. The weekend kicks off Friday evening with a Sioux YMCA Pop-Up Diner opening at 5:30 p.m.

Dewey and Ziebach counties will be well-represented at the South Dakota State High School Finals Rodeo this week as a combined 25 members of the Timber Lake High School Rodeo Club and Dupree High School Rodeo Team qualified to compete in Ft. Pierre Tuesday through Saturday, June 14-18.
