Winners take home the cash

The Sacred Heart Church in Dupree held their monthly $200 Club Drawings Sunday, May 15 at the church hall following Holy Mass and Brunch. Winners were: $50 - Stetson Vrooman of Eagle Butte and Kami McLellan of Lantry; $25 - Jim Brooks, Bill Mraz, Twila Schuler twice), all of Dupree.

Timber Lake, Isabel American Legion Auxiliary units announce winners of essay, poem, poppy poster contests

The Isabel Unit 120 and Timber Lake Unit 83 of the American Legion Auxiliary awarded cash prizes to winners of the essay, poem and poppy poster contests from Timber Lake School. The winners are: Essay contest Third grade: Mason Kraft, 1st; and Kateri Laurenz-Ducheneaux, 2nd.

Signs of Summer

Hail destroys the new garden plants. Kids return from college and vo-tech programs to help their parents and relax a while. Vultures circle Dupree neighborhoods in their annual mating ritual. The first tick of summer crawled on my arm.

Timber Lake School Board hires summer employees

The students may not be filling the hallways and classrooms, but there's always plenty of work to be done around the Timber Lake School during the summer months, prompting school officials to hire more than a dozen seasonal student employees.

Isabel to allow deer hunting on city-owned and private property

The community of Isabel will follow state hunting regulations and allow white-tail deer hunting within the city limits beginning this fall, opening up public lands to licensed hunters and allowing hunting on private property if the owner grants permission.

Little Pasture on the Prairie

Earlier this winter I’d sold the bulk of my little flock of sheep when we weren’t sure we would have any grass to feed them come summer. I’d kept the aged, the maimed, and the motley, of course, because no one else would want them, and those are always my favorites.
