Funeral services for Fern Goetz, 88, of Mobridge were held Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Fern passed away November 18, 2020, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.

Fern Alice Dearborn was born February 29, 1932 (leap year baby) in Isabel to Arthur and Julia (Donner) Dearborn. She grew up in Isabel where she attended school and met Marvin Goetz. Fern and Marvin were married October 13, 1949 in Isabel. To this union six children were born, Barbara, Kathy, LeRoy, Rocky, Jody, and Robin.

Married life took Fern and Marvin to Idaho for a short time. But South Dakota was home and most of their family was here, so they returned and spent the remainder of their lives in Mobridge.

Fern was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and friend. She was well known for her selfless time she spent volunteering at the Mobridge Care Center visiting with the patients, helping with events, or just sharing her infectious smile. Fern had a passion for plants and flowers and was a member of the Mobridge Garden Club, where she enjoyed spending time with other plant enthusiasts. Fern volunteered at the local florist shop delivering flowers on the busy holidays.

Fern loved her Lord and was a devoted member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid.

Fern is survived by four children: Barbara (Ray) Jung of Rapid City, Kathy (Ken) Walker of Selby, Jody (Tracy) Goetz of Mobridge and Robin (Roy) O’Day of Santa Fe, NM; 11 grandchildren: Marty, Michael, Angela Jung and Stephanie Curtis, Jason, Shane and Grant Walker, Jamie Fees, Jennifer West, Tyrell and Jade O’Day; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Lindskov.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Julia Dearborn; husband Marvin Goetz; sons LeRoy and Rocky Goetz; grandson Eric O’Day; and sisters Mildred Donbraska, Ethel Clifton, and Dolly Fleming.
