Three tractors pulling balers turn cut hay into round bales near Firesteel. Hay is being cut in the area as it is needed even if it’s not abundant. Between dry weather and late frosts, it’s certainly not a bumper crop. Some hay will be grazed rather than cut and some wheat may be hayed, as the crop fields are struggling and hay is becoming scarce for some producers.

Recent rainfall may give hope for some forage feed that’s been planted, but more rain is needed as ranchers and farmers face tough decisions
