Pauline B. Eagle Chasing, 87, of Cherry Creek passed away November 3, 2020 at the IHS Hospital, Eagle Butte. Private family services were held November 13, 2020 with burial at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cemetery in Cherry Creek.

Pauline was born on August 21, 1933 in Cherry Creek to Narcisse Eagle Chasing and Bessie Yellow Owl. She attended the Cheyenne Agency Boarding School. She was a caregiver for many families and was the cook for the Cherry Creek Head Start.

Pauline was a fluent Lakota speaker. She enjoyed telling stories in Lakota to her family. She used stories from her Lala Silas Yellow Owl to pass on teachings and values of life. They would begin with “Ehani Lala Heye sa” (long time ago, grandpa used to say).

In 2013 Unci Pauline moved to the Medicine Wheel Village in Eagle Butte.

Pauline is survived by her children: Marlon Yellow Owl, Iris Eagle Chasing, and Kathleen Eagle Chasing; grandchildren: Kate Condon, DeeAnn Eagle Chasing, Craig Dupris, Braden Dupris, Branden Dupris, Kaitlyn Dupris, Nicole Eagle Chasing, Kurt Eagle Chasing, and LaChelle Eagle Chasing; her great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia White Feather; adopted daughter, Audrey Antelope; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
