Carolyn Irene Friez was born on May 17, 1958 to Reuben and Clarice (Agrimson) Friez in McLaughlin. She graduated from McLaughlin High School in May 1976. She attended South Dakota State University for a semester and decided she preferred marriage to a college degree.

Carolyn married her high school friend, Richard “Rick” James Bieber, on August 20, 1977 in McLaughlin. Rick was in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in Fort Mead, Maryland at the time of their marriage. They started their married life in Laurel, Maryland. Rick was then stationed at Quantico, VA and they lived there for some time.

After three years in the Marine Corps, Rick and Carolyn moved back to the family farm near Trail City. Their lives were enriched with the birth of their daughter, Moya Denise, on October 28, 1979, and son, Benjamin Todd, on April 1, 1981. Carolyn did the book work for the farm and worked at Little Eagle Day School for 10 years. She also worked for FSA in Timber Lake. In 2004, Carolyn and Rick went their separate ways.

Carolyn met Dennis Paul Paulson from Killdeer, ND. They fell in love and were married in Killdeer on September 2, 2006. While living in Killdeer, she worked at Farmers Union for six years. Carolyn and Dennis moved to Rapid City in 2012.

Carolyn was creative with painting and craft projects. She was a meticulous bookkeeper and well-liked by her co-workers and employers. She cherished and prayed for her family and friends. She bravely fought many medical challenges right up until the end. She passed away on November 30, 2020.
