Grave side services for Thelma Traversie, 68, of White Horse were held Friday, December 4, 2020 at St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery at Tunder Butte.

Thelma passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at the Avantara Nursing Home in Pierre. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge was in charge of arrangements.

Thelma married Max on September 16, 1973. They lived in different areas of South Dakota but White Horse was always home. They just celebrated their 47th anniversary. Thelma passed away with Max by her side.

Thelma had one daughter, Dorothy Talks of Eagle Butte, and together Thelma and Max raised one daughter, LShonna (Trung) Nguyen of Sioux Falls, a grandchild, Justine Talks of Dupree and a great-grandson, Jesse Talks Jr. of White Horse.

She had seven grandkids — Iris Talks, Jesse Talks Sr., Codi Talks, Janessa and Quinn Eagle Horse, Shondey and Shandyn Nguyen, and many great-grandkids.

Thelma was very kind and caring. She always had coffee made waiting for company to stop by and visit, which many people did every morning so she looked forward to it. Her nurturing ways led her to be foster mother and all her foster kids became a part of her family.

Thelma was the happiest when she was surrounded by her grandkids or spending time with her daughter and family in Sioux Falls. She loved playing bingo and enjoyed doing crafts when she was able.

Thelma worked as a cook for the Eagle Butte Day Care and Walter Miner Law Enforcement for a number of years.
