Colette Shaving, 69, of Eagle Butte entered the spirit world December 11, 2020 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre with her children by her side.

A private family service was held December 26, 2020 at the Landmark Hall in Eagle Butte. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at LaPlant.

Colette was born to Phillip and Meta Charger on June 2, 1951. Later the family relocated to LaPlant. She attended school at Old Cheyenne River Agency and later attended Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Boarding School, graduating in May 1970.

Colette married Charles Shaving and to this union three daughters were born: Tisha Ann, Lynelle Marie, and Tonia Lynn. Also joining them was their grandson, Jalen Charles Shaving.

Colette was employed as a Community Health Representative and served the community of LaPlant both as CHR and as a Community Caretaker. She was involved with youth activities, organizing events, and spending quality time with those she loved and cared for. Colette served on the Tiospaye Topa School Board as well as the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School Board.

She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and she enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Colette is survived by her daughters: Tisha Fast Horse and Lynelle Buffalo of Eagle Butte, and Tonia Shaving of LaPlant; 10 grandchildren; brother, Larry Charger, Sr. of LaPlant; sisters Delilah Charger and Winona Charger, both of Eagle Butte; and numerous other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shaving; grandson Rueben Fast Horse; parents Phillip and Meta Charger; brothers Clarence, Leonard, and Robert Charger; sisters Anna DeHorse, Phyllis Charger and Myrna Charger; grandparents Sam and Rosa Charger; and great-grandparents Chief Waanatan and Eliza Charger.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
