Funeral services for Russell John Peacock, 67, of Bison were held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bison with Rev. Florence Hoff officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.

Russell John Peacock was born on August 21, 1953, in Pickstown to John and Thelma (Landsverk) Peacock. His early years involved numerous moves, finally settling in Newell, where he became active in Boy Scouts, which early on formed his the love of the outdoors. In 1967 the family moved to Eagle Butte.

Russell attended Springfield University, majoring in computer electronics. He married his high school sweetheart on February 16, 1974, and they returned to Springfield for Russell to finish his degree. They then moved to Eagle Butte and he began an electrical apprenticeship, earning his license, which offered him the credentials needed to be hired by Grand Electric in Bison. He began working in 1978 as the appliance serviceman, a position he held until 1983, when an illness forced a leave of absence.

Upon his return he began his career with West River Telephone, as an apprentice combination tech. In 2002 he was promoted to Area Supervisor of Telecommunications.

Russell was active in the Lions Club; he served on the board of Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Bison. He also taught hunter safety courses, served as an EMT and was a proud lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. His membership in the NRA led to a hobby and he soon became an FFL dealer, doing transfers for the NRA banquets and then beginning his own sports supply business.

Russell passed away on Sunday evening, January 17, 2021 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

He is survived by his wife Becky Bison; sons Jason (Wendy) Peacock of Bison and Michael (Bonnie) Peacock of Pringle; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Randy, Jerry (Eileen), Charles (Becky), and Mark (Patty) Peacock; sisters Sandy Peacock and Nancy (Rick) Schrempp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Tracy; brother, Mike; and grandparents, Walter and Phylis Peacock and Arne and Tilda Landsverk.
