Emaline Moran, 91, of Bear Creek passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte. Private family services were held. A public graveside service was May 11, 2021 at the Eagle Butte Cemetery. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge was in charge of arrangements.
Emaline LeBeau was born at the Old Cheyenne Agency to Patrick and Ida (Swiftbird) LeBeau on February 6, 1930. She grew up in the Little Moreau/Promise area. She graduated from high school at Stephan Boarding School and received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.
She married Manson Austin Garreaux and they had three daughters, Linda, Carol, and Margaret. Her second marriage was to the love of her life, Edward Moran, and they were united for 44 years. They lived in McLaughlin until her retirement from the federal government at the IHS McLaughlin Clinic. They then moved to the Bear Creek Community.
In her earlier days, she loved to dance and listen to the local country bands, especially Frankie Thompson and Wyman Archambault.
Emaline’s Catholic faith was her strength. She attended All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. As her health declined over the last year Eddie took the role of being her primary caretaker with the guidance from Betty and Kathy, CHRs from Tribal Health of Eagle Butte.
Emaline leaves behind her husband Ed; step-son Terry Moran and daughters Linda (George) Bartlett of Bemidji, MN and Margaret (Bill) Gunville of rural Eagle Butte; her brother, Vetal LeBeau of Houston, TX; her Hunka daughters, Irma Annis of Bismarck, ND and Dr. Brenda Farris of Tahlequah, OK; grandchildren Cody Spears, Austin Gunville, Winston Gunville, Shawn Garreaux, Jeff, Rushael, Tyson (Joyce), and Tiara (Aaron) Maxon; great-grandchildren Kevin, KaIEI and Morgan Spears, Halle, Ralph, Maria and Jay Vrooman and Avery and Oliver Maxon; her faithful friend and companion, Pete; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Ida LeBeau; daughter Carol; special son-in-law Wayne Maxon; brothers Herbert, Eric, Harold, Maurice and Seymour; sisters Sybil, Wilma, and Inez; and hunka daughter, Darlyn Fiddler.
