Funeral services for James Brings Horse were held May 22, 2021 at the Bingo Hall in Eagle Butte. Burial was in the UCC Cemetery in LaPlant under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge.
James passed away in Eagle Butte on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
James Harold Brings Horse was born January 4, 1962 at Eagle Butte to Phillip Brings The Horses and Pearl Bird Necklace-Brings The Horses. He grew up in Eagle Butte and attended Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School. James “Jimmy” was a kind, caring, and generous person. He always thought of everyone and made sure everyone was fed and had a place to stay at his home.
Jimmy’s hobbies were playing horse shoe, weight lifting, playing cards, playing basketball, and watching movies. He loved to cook huge home cooked meals for his family and friends.
He is survived by his brother Carlin Brings Horse, Sr. (Gloria Smith); sisters Lavita Brings The Horses (Conrad Eagle Feather) and Monalisa Dunsmore (Robert); aunts Mazie Shelton and Majel Bird Necklace; uncles Mike Bowker and Vern Shelton; nieces Melody Gray, Tomi Dupris-Mahto, Tahnee Mestes, Tina Stands For, Taryn Uses The Knife, Kristan Cloud, Jesselyn Zephier, Kelli Thompson, and Cate Brings Horse; and nephews Emmett Bruguier, Carlin Brings Horse, Jr., Shane Bruguier (Bramm and Katara), John Miller, Brady Miller, Wallace Stands For, Tristan Stands For, and Steven Lafferty; and many cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nancy Brings Horse and Gloria Brings Horse; his paternal grandparents, Wallace Brings The Horses and Lucy Sacred Arrow-Brings The Horses; his maternal grandparents, Moses Bird Necklace and Louise (Iron) Bird Necklace; two nephews, Warren Barondeaux and Trenton Stands For; uncles Stanley Looking Horse, Dennis Bird Necklace, Tom Iron, and Ernest Iron; and aunts Rita Iron Cloud, Gladys White Shield, Delilah White Shield, Verda Bird Necklace, Cecilia Looking Horse, Catherine Holy Eagle, and Sybil Iron.
