Mass of Christian Burial for Darci Rae Laurenz, 33, of Eagle Butte was held Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Burial was at the Eagle Butte Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Darci passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Darci Rae Laurenz was born in Eagle Butte on July 10, 1987 to Michon Marshall and Shane Laurenz.
Darci attended Tiospaye Topa School for most of her school years, graduating from there in May 2005. Throughout her life, Darci worked various jobs, sometimes even two or more at a time. Her most recent jobs were as a substitute at the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School and surveillance security at Grand River Casino at Mobridge. She liked to refer to herself as “The Eye in the Sky” at GRC.
Darci was blessed with two daughters, August Cali and Kateri Jade, and a son, Alexander Layne Reed. She considered being a mother as her greatest accomplishment. She made sure she made lasting memories with her children, whether they were cruising the open roads with her music blasting, sitting at the river or a pool somewhere, or just being with family.
Darci is survived by her children, August Cali, Kateri Jade and Alexander Layne Reed; her mother Michon Marshall (Mark LeBeau); father Shane Laurenz; siblings, Kelsie Lawrence (Clint), Kelan Gesinger (Toni), Kelli Laurenz (Shad), Cooper Marshall (Nate), Trevor Laurenz (Skya), Alyssa and Robbi Laurenz, Michael Marshall (Tammy) and Whitney Joe; nieces and nephews, Kahlor, Kiercen, Carter, Krue, JoyceAnn, and Payton; and numerous grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
Darci was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joyce Circle Eagle-Hill, Bob Marshall, Auggie and Heddy Laurenz; aunts Sandy Laurenz and Patty Kennedy, uncle Ronnie Halfred; and special uncle Franklin Darcy Halfred “Jumbo,” whom she was named after.
