Isabel’s Kenlea Heck claimed top honors in barrel racing at the South Dakota High School Rodeo Association’s River Region Rodeo in Highmore Saturday, June 5, topping a field of 47 competitors in the event.
Regional rodeos were also held in Buffalo, Wall and Huron last weekend with a second round of regional events slated June 11-13. The Northwest Region will compete in Dupree, the Southwest Region is in Belle Fourche, the River Region is in Winner and the Eastern Region of the state competes in Watertown. The State High School Rodeo Finals are June 15-19 in Fort Pierre.
Heck placed first in barrel racing with times of 18.604 and 18.398 seconds. Kashlin Bettelyoun of Eagle Butte placed sixth in the event with times of 18.683 and 19.000 seconds. Bettelyoun also captured sixth place in the breakaway roping event with times of 5.640 and 3.400 seconds.
In bull riding, Dylan Bradford of Selby claimed third place with a 72 point ride while Chazz Gabe of Timber Lake was fourth with a score of 71.
