Ruth Ella Kruse Adams

September 14, 1922– August 21, 2021

The funeral service for Ruth Kruse Adams, 98, of Sturgis will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon with Pastor Ed Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon with full military honors afforded by the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post #66 of Lemmon. Following the graveside service a time of fellowship and luncheon will be held at the American Legion in Lemmon.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 29 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday from 9:00 a.m. to the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home.

Special music will be provided by Marilyn Willey.

Serving as casketbearers are Bill Erhardt, Greg Bowser, Gary Frisvold, Loyson Carda, Bill Penfield, and Pete Girsinius.

Ruth passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center at Ft. Meade, SD.

Ruth Ella Kruse was born to Charles William Kruse and Juanita Andrace (Friend) Kruse on September 14, 1922 on the Kruse homestead south of Lemmon in Lincoln Township. Ruth graduated from the eighth grade at the Carpenter School, a one room country school. She attended Shephard School in Washington, DC during her sixth grade and Oroville, CA Grave School during her seventh grade. During the depression, the entire family moved to northern California to pick grapes. Ruth graduated from Lemmon High School in 1941 and went on to Business College in Billings, MT until World War II broke out. She then took a Civil Service job in Washington, DC until she joined the US Navy, where she served as a Wave with BuPers (Navy Personnel Command) during World War II.

Ruth married Elmer Preston Adams from Milledgeville, GA on April 10, 1943 in Washington. Preston was stationed at Quanitco, VA in the US Marine Corps.

One daughter, LoElla Marie Adams, was born to them on July 2, 1947 at Lemmon.

Ruth spent her life as a successful businesswoman. She worked in many fields to earn a living. She owned her own cosmetic line, was a licensed beautician, and was an advertising salesperson for numerous radio and television stations in the Dakota area. The last 14 years of her employment was as a cattle buyer in the Dakotas and Montana until she returned to the family homestead to care for her aged mother and brother, Todd.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post #66 in Lemmon. Ruth’s hobbies included oil painting, crafts and sewing.

Ruth is survived by her nephew, Stanley Kruse, Glad Valley; cousin Carol Kruse Ross, San Diego, CA; grand nephew, Harry Breeden, III, Huntsville, AL; grand niece, Pam Juen, El Paso, TX; two great-grand nephews, a great-grand niece, and a great-great-grand niece.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, LoElla Gramlich, brothers Marvin, Edgar, Charles F. (Todd) Kruse, and niece Anita Breeden.
