Bunny Thompson

November 26, 1949 – October 8, 2021

Mass of Christian Burial for Bunny Thompson, 71, of White Horse was held Monday, October 18, 2021 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in White Horse. Burial was at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Bunny passed away Friday, October 8, 2021, at her home in White Horse.

Bernadine “Bunny” Sue Ducheneaux was born on November 26, 1949 to Tuffy and Mary (Collins) Ducheneaux at the Cheyenne River Agency. She attended Promise Day School, White Horse Day School, and graduated in 1968 from Stephan Mission School. She attended Black Hills State University from 1971 to 1973. She grew up on her parents’ ranch at Promise along with her 13 siblings.

She met the love of her life, Frank Thompson, in 1974 and they were married May 8, 1975 in Pierre.

To this union, two sons were born, and a daughter was raised. The first, Stormy, raised in 1970, Shadow born in 1979, and Tuffy born in 1983. With this marriage, Bunny inherited two sons, Greg and Marty whom she loved as her own.

Bunny worked numerous jobs throughout her life. She spent her life watching her husband sing, attending dances, playing Bingo, watching “Days of Our Lives,” spending time with her grandchildren, and checking Facebook.

Bunny was affectionately known as “Grandma” and it is impossible to overstate her value as the family matriarch, as the imprint she left is considerable and undeniable.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 46 years, Frank Thompson of White Horse; children Shadow Thompson and Tuffy (LeAnn) Thompson of White Horse, Stormy (Shaun) Fiddler of Williston, ND, Greg (Shelly) Thompson of LaPlant, and Marty Thompson (Sheri Long) of Timber Lake; grandchildren, Hayden Thompson, Hadley Thompson, Haylee Thompson, Jax Oliver Thompson, Wroper Kosel, Mc’Kendel Rosa, Kayo Thompson, Kaitlyn Thompson, Sky Walker Thompson, Alli’say Peterson, Ronnilyn Long, and Rami’elle Marie High Bear; great-grandchildren–Wropen, Chandler, Jackson, and Londyn; siblings– Janice (Al) Aberle, Arlyce (Bill) Wientjes, Mary Jane Anderson, Tommy Ducheneaux, and Lila (Ronnie) Long; brothers-inlaw Ross Lawrence, Bob Hagel and Duane “Whitey” Keller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Tuffy and Mary Ducheneaux; sisters Phyllis Gunville, Deloris Ward, Marilyn “Butchie” Thompson, Debbe Lawrence, Audrey Hagel, and Sharon Keller; brothers Lyle Ducheneaux and Roman Ducheneaux; nephews TJ Ducheneaux, Ford Ducheneaux, Romey Gunville, and Gumbo Lamb; nieces Guyla Gunville and Claudine Ducheneaux; brothers-inlaw Dick Ward, Vincent Thompson, Delbert Lamb, Elmer Gunville, Dick Anderson, and Wally Grage; and sister-in-law Hilda Ducheneaux.
