Mass of Christian Burial for Frances Helen Holzer of Mobridge was held Monday October 25, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge.
Frances passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.
Frances was born May 29, 1922 to Peter and Rosena (Sahli) Kraft on a farm nine miles north of Bowdle. At the age of 3 she moved to Trail City with her family. She attended the Red Top School through the 8th grade. After grade school she stayed at home to help raise her brothers and sisters and did various jobs for friends and neighbors.
Frances married Valentine Holzer on February 23, 1943, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City. After their marriage they lived at the John Holzer farm north of Trail City for a short time. They bought the Glencross Post Office building and moved it to a farm four miles north of Trail City and farmed there until they moved to Roscoe in 1956 to pursue a junk yard business.
In March of 1958 the junk yard business was moved to McLaughlin. The family lived in McLaughlin until the fall of 1958 when they moved back to Trail City to milk cows. After retirement, they moved to Mobridge in May of 1983.
Frances was the strength and rock of her family. She was always optimistic and looked forward to the spring when it was time to plant flowers and the garden. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Altar Society, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society and volunteered at the Mobridge Care Center. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, quilting, sewing, gardening, canning, baking, cooking for her family, sharing recipes, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by four daughters: Marcella (Ken) Senger of Salem, OR, Dorothy (Rodney) Senger of Mobridge, Cecelia Holzer of Mobridge, Shirley (Ted) Schweitzer of Glencross; one sister, Mary Dillman of Walker; two sisters-in-law, Mary Eva Kraft of Holiday, FL and Nadine Kraft of Kansas; one daughter-in-law, Betty Holzer of Mobridge; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Frances in death are her parents, husband Valentine on Sept. 29, 1987; two sons, Jim on November 4, 1974 and DeWayne on August 19, 1984; siblings Margaret, Eva, Elizabeth, John, Casper, Roy, Leo, Frank, Valentine, Adeline, Peter, Barbara, Agnes and two baby sisters, Helen and Agnes, who died at birth.
