Irene Faye McGill, 73, of Lantry passed away December 8, 2021 in Pierre. She was born to Benjamin and Irvina Hellekson (Walthal), January 9, 1948 in Rapid City. Irene attended Zeal country school south of Faith from grades 1-8. She attended her freshman year of high school at St. Martins Academy in Rapid City. She had enough of the all-girls school after one year and came back and finished school at Faith High School.
She attended college at SDSU in Brookings and became a Nurse’s Assistant. She went on to work at the Faith hospital and St. John’s hospital in Rapid City. She later became a home health aide caring for many people in the Dupree/Lantry/Eagle Butte area from 1987-2004.
She married Lincoln “Bill” McGill of Lantry on November 8, 1972 and they settled on the family ranch south of Lantry, where they have lived for 49 years.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Grant (Connie) McGill of Elkton, Tammy McGill-Bennett of Pierre, Anita (Matthew) Dutton of Cottonwood, AZ, and Lance (Farah) McGill of Ft. Hood TX; 11 grandchildren; siblings Nadine Mahaffy, Dave Hellekson and Dennis Hellekson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son, Justin McGill; her parents; twin granddaughters, Carly Faye and Elaine Rose; son-in-law Roger Bennett; and two brothers Duane Hellekson and Daniel Hellekson.
Her funeral service was held December 15, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupree followed by burial at the Lantry Cemetery.
