Funeral services for William Veo, 57, of Timber Lake were held January 11, 2022 at the Timber Lake Community Center. Burial was at the St. Mary’s Episcopal Cemetery in Promise under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. William passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the Cheyenne River IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte.
William C. Veo – Swift Bear (Naeo’Oh’An’Ku) was born on March 6, 1964 in Eagle Butte to Verdell Veo and Irma Lee Condon (Fisherman).
William had gone to school at several locations. He attended Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School and Job Corps at Kicking Horse, where he completed his GED and truck driving certificate in July 1985. In 1986, he resided on the Standing Rock Reservation where he met his mate, Annie Gates, who has gone to the spirit world.
“Wild Bill” was a bareback rider. He rode his father’s bucking stock in the summer evenings in the Little Eagle area. He was also an Indian relay racer and owned his own race horses, traveling to all of the races. Bill was also an outdoorsman, loving fishing and hunting.
Bill worked road construction in McLaughlin for several years as a laborer. He also worked at the McLaughlin Nutrition Center, at the bingo hall.
William was a very humble and kind man. He is survived by his siblings, Delores Jamerson (Veo), Lunn Veo, Selena Veo (Tudee) and Jeff Veo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Verdell Veo; mother Irma Lee Condon (Fisherman); Vernon Veo Jr. and grandparents Louise Veo and Susan Veo (Briggs).
