Jon Dahlke

October 7, 1944 – January 14, 2022

Jon August Dahlke, 77, of Rapid City passed away January 14, 2022.

Jon was born on October 7, 1944 in Mobridge to Elmer and Dorothy (Lippert) Dahlke. The family resided in Mobridge, Aberdeen and Winner before settling in Rapid City, where Jon graduated from Rapid City High School in 1962. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1965.

While stationed in San Diego, CA he met and married Linda Stuart. Jon and Linda returned to Rapid City in 1970 and raised their three children. While Jon and Linda divorced in 1982, they remained good friends. Jon enjoyed a 35-year career with

Jon enjoyed a 35-year career with the United States Postal Service in various positions from route carrier to Postmaster of Deadwood. While working at the Rapid City Post Office Jon met Viola (Naiman) Barfoot. Jon and Vi traveled often and spent many winters in Welton, AZ.

Jon served his community in many ways including: Rapid City Police Reserve Officer from 1971-1980 (on duty the night of the 1972 Rapid City flood), CASA volunteer, Community Theater performer, Hart Ranch rodeo volunteer, Harney Little League umpire, Journey Museum volunteer, member of the National Association of Postmasters, and active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, serving in various capacities over the years.

Jon is remembered by many for his portrayal of Santa Claus, bringing joy to countless children, families and events in the community..

Celebration of Life services will be Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
