Funeral services for Taten Maupin, 24, of Eagle Butte were held Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial followed at the Bordeaux Family Cemetery in LaPlant. Taten passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 in Eagle Butte. Oster Funeral Home of Eagle Butte was in charge of arrangements.
Taten Wesley Dean Maupin was born May 7, 1998 to Darlyn Maupin and Lloyd Thompson, Jr.
From the time he could start traditional dancing, everyone knew him as that “Lil Blue Eyed Traditional Dancer”–-dancing out there with the big guys. He loved hunting fishing, camping, anything outdoors, and skateboarding. At Tiospaye Topa High School, he became an outstanding basketball player, captain of the team, and was prom king.
Taten worked numerous jobs including Eagle Stop, Farlee Trenching, Mni Mart, Number Nine Steakhouse, Tri County Water, Hardly Mechanics, ranch hand, and Fischer Enterprise. He had many hobbies such as softball league, pool league, dart league, basketball, and rodeo.
Taten’s life will be cherished by his parents, Darlyn Maupin and Lloyd Thompson, Jr.; grandfathers Garland Maupin, Sr. and Lloyd Thompson, Sr.; grandmothers Jennifer Maupin, Caroline Thompson and Iva Traversie; aunts and uncles; brothers Jeremy High Elk and Wasu Thompson; sisters Tracy “TJ” Maupin, Bailey Thompson, Chantel Maupin, and Skeeter Thompson; many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers Esther Iron Moccasin, Rosie Arpan, Pam Houston, and Carol O’Neal; grandfathers Richard Bordeaux, Shorty Bordeaux, Charles Maupin, and Tom Thompson; uncles Tracey Maupin and LD LaPlante; aunt Tanna Maupin; nephew Ohiyesa Hanson; best friends Thomas Kennedy and Andrew Frost; and other family and friends.
