Douglas Dale Orth was born to Henry and Amanda (Trautman) Orth in Eureka on August 16, 1947. He was raised a farm boy near Artas along with his older brother Ted younger brother Henry John “Johnny” and younger sister Wanda. He attended the elementary school south of their farm and graduated from Herreid High School in 1965.

Doug entered the US Army on October 18, 1966. He was trained as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. While in the Army, he was in Ft. Bliss, TX, Ft. Huachuca, AZ, Ft. Campbell, KY and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on August 17, 1968 and was very proud to be a veteran.

After returning from Vietnam, he attended mechanic school in Aberdeen. He worked as a mechanic at Kramer Corbin Auto dealership in Mobridge until 1977. He then bought Doug’s Auto Salvage. During this time, he also had a wrecker service. He then started a manufacturing company called Doug’s Manufacturing Company (DMCO).

In 1989, Doug did the ultimate selfless act of donating a kidney to his sister Wanda. In 1994, Doug began work at the Mobridge School as a custodian and bus driver. He enjoyed working with the teachers and students but even more loved watching the sports that he was driving the kids to. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Doug was also a lover of motor sports. He enjoyed snowmobiling, motocross, tractor pulls, mud runs, and demolition derbies. He had a great knowledge of cars. These interests have trickled down to his kids and grandkids (except the Vikings).
