Richard “Dick” Lee Schweitzer, 76, of Aberdeen, passed away on January 25, 2023. He was born June 4, 1946 to Ted and Vera (Korb) Schweitzer in Mobridge. He grew up on the family farm at Glencross and attended elementary school there. He graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1964 and attended Northern State University.
He married Carol Holzer on February 4, 1967 and they had three children.
Dick became an Independent Licensed Insurance Agent in 1970. He spent the past 53 years helping clients across South Dakota and North Dakota with their annuity and life insurance needs. He met many people through his insurance work and his clients considered him a devoted friend. Dick also earned a great reputation with the insurance companies he represented.

longtime partner Sandy, who passed away a year ago. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for many years and that is where he met Sandy. They especially loved to go out dancing and going to movies. Dick loved to play cards with friends and family and taught many of his nieces and nephews his card shark ways. He also bowled in a league for many years. He loved his fishing trips to Akaska, and was a Diet Coke aficionado. He held season tickets to Northern State Wolves basketball and was a true fan. Most of all he was a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan. He couldn’t wait for the baseball season to begin in the spring.
He is survived by his daughter, Geri Mattern (Jamie) of Eureka, and grandchildren Allison Boynton and Shaun Mattern; son Brad (Connie), and grandson Brandon, and son Kenny, all of Aberdeen; his siblings Robert (Robin) of Gillette, WY, Janice Backes of Caledonia, ND, Ted (Shirley) of Glencross, Dorothy Pogue of Sioux Falls, Kenneth (Beth) of Gillette, WY, Gary (Karen) of Garretson, James of Thornton, CO, Lowell of Gillette, WY, Annette Osborn (Jacque) of Aberdeen, and Alan (Suzie) of Shelbyville, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Vera, and his brother Dennis.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home of Aberdeen.
