November 12, 1974 –June 26, 2023
Jeremy Michael Schad, 48, of Lantry passed away at the Schad residence on June 26, 2023. Ozzy, the family dog was by his side.
Jeremy was born in Mobridge on November 12, 1974 to Sidney and Verna Schad. He had attended elementary school in Lantry and middle and high school at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, graduating in 1993. After earning a degree in Law Enforcement from Western Dakota Vo-Tech, Jeremy returned home to work for the CRST Walter Miner Law Enforcement Police Department. He also worked briefly with the Department of Social Services in Eagle Butte and helped his father with the family farm every year (since childhood) before becoming a full-time, self-employed businessman.
In 2005, after a brief telephone conversation with a gentleman in Minnesota, he launched his career as owner and operator of Eagle Storage, LLC. That phone call was part of a foundational framework that created a lasting friendship and mentorship up until the time of Jeremy’s death. Over the next several years, Eagle Storage provided storage unit services across communities, businesses, homes, and reservations throughout western South Dakota and areas in North Dakota.
In 2017, Jeremy expanded his business operations to include temporary event fencing as well as permanent residential and business fencing. He valued and expressed the need to create employment opportunities, fund the local economy, and find innovative ways to address resource needs of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. He served on the board of directors for the Four Bands Community Fund, which gave him the opportunity to be directly involved in making a positive change for his community by encouraging and promoting entrepreneurship.
Jeremy enjoyed spending time with his family, for any occasion. If there was no holiday in sight, he would often create an occasion or a “made-up” dad holiday to gather the “Schadlings” for a meal he would prepare for his family.
He was an avid sports fan and was a devoted Rapid City RUSH and Rapid City Marshals fan. But the pride of Jeremy’s sports world, came in being a Cowboys Nation enthusiast. It was not uncommon to find him and Rikki in Dallas throughout the NFL season, attending football games.
Jeremy and Rikki Lynn Hall were married on June 28, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV. They became the parents to Sydney (1997) and twins, Matthew and Mya (2002).
Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Schad and sister, Erin Elizabeth; paternal and maternal grandparents, Donald and Helen Schad and Robert and Jean Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Rikki; their three children: Sydney Nicole and Matthew Ryan of Lantry, and Mya Michael of Rapid City; one brother, Ryan Schad of Portland, OR; his mother, Verna (Ed) Carns of Delta Junction, AK; his Godchild, Asa Alu Knife of Dupree; and several aunts and uncles from the Rose and Schad families.
A Celebration of Life service was held at the Schad residence in Lantry on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, with funeral services the following day at the same location.
