Roger Hegre, 90, of Lemmon, formerly of Timber Lake, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
Funeral services for Roger were held Monday, July 31, 2023 at the United Parish in Timber Lake. Burial was at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Roger Keith Hegre was born in Dupree, on January 2, 1933, to Severin and Irene (Fuller) Hegre. He grew up in Dupree and graduated from Dupree High School in 1951. Following high school, he worked for his father at the International Harvester dealership in Dupree.
He enlisted in the US Navy on September 3, 1952, and served as a radio operator during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Following four years of service in the Navy, he attended the National School of Business in Rapid City. Following his graduation he accepted a position as an instructor in the school.

On July 12, 1953 he was united in marriage to Ella Delores Oberg. To this union three children were born: Charlotte, RoAnn and Randy. Roger and his family moved to Timber Lake, where he worked at the Dewey County Bank and later took a position at Moreau-Grand Electric Cooperative. He became the assistant manager of the cooperative and retired in 1994. He went back to work a couple times helping when needed.
Roger loved fishing, playing cards, and traveling. Eventually woodworking became a hobby and passion, and he made beautiful curio cabinets, jewelry boxes, and napkin holders; just to name a few. He was an avid card player, and especially loved cribbage and pinochle. He was a member of the American Legion and local Masonic Lodge and Shriners Club.
He is survived by his son, Randy (Linda Swenson) Hegre of Amery, WI; daughter RoAnn (Mike) Adams of Leawood, KS; son-in-law, Jeff Kurtz of Bismarck, ND; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; friend and caregiver, Lois Crocker; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ella; daughter Charlotte Kurtz; and his siblings, Daryl Hegre, Gladys Brown and Carol Stumpf.
A memorial has been established to the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
