Landon Carter Red Bear

Funeral services for Landen Carter Red Bear, 11, of Wakpala were held Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial was at St. Peter Episcopal Cemetery in Thunder Butte under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Landen passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Landen Red Bear, an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, was born on January 25, 2012, to Donell Red Bear. He attended several schools, touching hearts wherever he went. He attended United Tribes Head Start, Crazy Horse School his last year of Head Start and into kindergarten. He then moved on to Chamberlain for most of first grade then went to Sioux Falls Laura Wilder School where he would attend second, third and fourth grades. At Wakpala School he finished 5th grade, and was excited for the start of junior high at East Middle School in Rapid City.

Landen had a kind, big heart and a contagious laugh. His smile could be remembered as a kind and gentle hello. He had future plans laid out with goals in mind. He loved to play video games. He joked and teased and knew his sports. He lived his life

to the fullest. He excelled in sports. He would say he loved basketball but secretly had a passion for football.

Landen is survived by his mother, Donell Red Bear; sister, Arianna Red Bear; dad, Silas “Tate” Blaine Jr.; big brother, Ethan Doc Anpo Banks; big sister, Tatyum Bailey Banks; grandma, Lola Blaine; grandpas Silas Blaine Sr. and Arvin Red Bear; and all his relatives, all his hunka relatives, friends and all who touched his heart.

He is preceded in death by greatgrandmas Ilene Red Bear and Gladys Hawk; great-grandpa, William Red Bear; cousins Kyla Red Bear and Tiauna Red Bear; and uncle Dominique St. Pierre.
