Lifelong Meade County resident Mattie Goff Newcombe was inducted into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame in early September, recognizing her contribution as a woman in rodeo.
Born Dec. 21, 1906, at Tepee Creek south of White Owl, she was educated at the Tepee Creek School and used her love of horses to break into the sport of rodeo in the early 1920s.
