Hayden Joe Schmautz, 19, of Fort Pierre passed away on November 10, 2023 due to an auto accident.
Hayden was born on December 8, 2003, in Pierre to Monacha and Ryan Ellerton and Danny and Elizabeth Schmautz. He was a beloved brother of Haylee and Jaylynn Ellerton, Macyn Schmautz, and Bryson Schmautz. Hayden was also cherished by his grandparents, Kevin and Margie Laub, Glen and Russanne Ellerton, Grandma Shirley Schmautz, Grandma Jeanne, Papa Kim, Papa Simpson, and Karl Jarvis. The Schmautz family formerly lived at Dupree.
He was an active member of Oahe ABATE, Roadhouse Bike Night, and the Fort Pierre Fire Department. Hayden’s dedication to serving his community was evident through his career as a mail delivery man for Pierre. Prior to that, he had worked at Napa Auto Parts and served as a firefighter for the Fort Pierre Fire Department. Hayden was a graduate of Stanley County High School. He valued education and believed in the power of knowledge.
Funeral services were held at New Life Church, with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. Isburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
