April 1, 1937 – January 1, 2024
Cedric Dayton Hall, 86, of Pierre died on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Maryhouse in Pierre.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, January 5, 2024, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre with burial at Riverside Cemetery at Pierre.
Cedric Dayton Hall, along with his twin brother, Roderick, was born to Virgil and Verna (Campbell) Hall in Pierre on April 1, 1937. He was raised in the Joe Creek area. He attended Busy Bee School and graduated from Stephan High School.
Cedric married Lorita Lawrence, his boarding school sweetheart, on April 16, 1957. They moved to Dallas, TX in 1959 where he and Rod attended barber school. Cedric and Lorita had four children: Janell, Karla, Lisa and Halsey. While in Texas he also broke and trained horses.
Ced and his family moved back to South Dakota in 1972 and settled in Blunt, where there were lasting friendships, adventures and memories made. The family later relocated to Pierre where he was employed at the Pierre Indian Learning Center. After their children all graduated from high school Ced and Lorita relocated to Piedmont. He had different types of employment throughout the years but the one that he always found his way back to was being a ranch hand.
Ced always had a story. (Not sure if it was true, but it was a story and usually a good one.)
Ced is survived by his four children: Janell (Todd) Ward of Mobridge, Karla of Aberdeen, Lisa (Jess) Schlosser of Timber Lake and Halsey (Sarah Wetzler) of Rapid City; grandchildren: Kyle, Kayla, Morgan, Amber, Lanie, Kasen, Ryan, Quintin, Jesse (“OP”), Skyla, Paige, and Halle; great-grandchildren: Hudson, Cody, Taylor, Ethan, Marley, Jersie, Emmie, Kyler, Daris, Neveah, Natalia, Jesalyn, Ronsyn, Rae’ah, Emmie, Ryatt, Ryan Jr and Eastyn; great-greatgrandchildren: Kinzley, Cash and Lennox; siblings: Hazel Alleman of Pierre, Scott Hall of Elizabeth, CO, his twin Roderick Hall of Pierre, and Danny Hall of Fort Pierre; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the Hall and Lawrence families.
Ced was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Verna Hall; brother Frank “Bud”; sisters Annabelle, Mary and June; nieces Arlene and Halona; and nephew John.
