Alice Helen Witte Enright, 91, of Belle Fourche, formerly of rural Corson County and Timber Lake, died Friday, March 24, 2023 at Belle Estate in Belle Fourche. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake with Father Brian Lane, Celebrant. Interment will be at a later date at Timber Lake Cemetery.
Alice was born at home in Corson County on October 6, 1931. Her name in German was Allus, meaning “this is all.” However, she was the 6th of 14 children born to Matt and Anna (Chase) Jung (9 sisters and 4 brothers). She grew up on the family farm and she always said, “The girls worked just as hard as the boys!” She attended a country school for 8 years, then went to high school in Isabel for two years, and McIntosh for two years, graduating in 1949 as salutatorian of her class. Playing girls basketball was one of her fondest memories of high school.
After graduation, she was hired to teach grades 1 through 8 at a county school south of Watauga, in the McIntosh School District. Math and History were her favorite subjects. She taught there for two years. During the summer she attended summer school to get her teaching certificate, one summer at Northern Normal School (now Northern State University), and the second summer at Black Hills College in Spearfish.
Alice loved music and dancing and met Edward Witte at a dance. They were married June 22, 1952

and lived south of McIntosh, on her brother Phillip’s farm. In 1955, they purchased a dairy farm 11 miles northwest of Timber Lake. Their first home was a basement house built into the side of a hill. In 1967 they moved into a “new” house they renovated. They farmed and milked dairy cows. Six children were born to them: Curtis (Sue) Witte of Pierre, Sherry Witte of Norwood Young America, MN, Roxy (Craig) Hanson of San Diego, CA, Lynn Hayward of Columbus, OH, Leann (Vern) Hintz of Belle Fourche, and Roger (Samantha) Witte of Pierre.
Edward passed away March 24, 1978. Alice moved to Timber Lake and was employed at Moreau-Grand Electric Co-op. While working there, she met A. Bryce Enright and they were married on June 15, 1984. This also expanded the family with two bonus children, Denver (Adele) and Rodney (Mavis) Enright of Timber Lake. Bryce and Alice lived in Timber Lake during the winter time and on the ranch 10 miles northeast of Timber Lake during the rest of the year. They enjoyed traveling and saw much of the United States. After Bryce died on October 28, 2010 she remained in her home in Timber Lake until November of 2019 when she moved to Belle Fourche Estate Senior Living in Belle Fourche.
Alice was a devoted mother, and proud of all her children, especially the fact that they all graduated from college. Throughout her life, she was a teacher, raised her children, gardened and canned, did upholstery work, was an EMT and was a secretary at Moreau-Grand. She had many hobbies, including reading, sewing, gardening, playing harmonica, and baking (especially breads) and has won many awards at the county fair/ achievement days for this. She had an impressive teapot collection and acquired many of them at auction sales. Later in life, she enjoyed going to the casino. She enjoyed her many friends and was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holy Cross Altar Society and Birthday Club.
She is survived by her seven children, Curtis Witte, Sherry Witte, Roxy Hanson, Lynn Hayward, Leann Hintz, Roger Witte and Rod Enright; 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grand children (soon to be 29), and 7 greatgreat-grandchildren; 7 siblings: Jean, Agnes, Barbara, Beth, Mel, Tony, and Pat.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Anna; husbands Edward and Bryce; son Denver Enright; and siblings Phillip, Mick, Lawrence, Myrtle, Mary Ann, and Francis.
