The funeral service for Alphonso Garreau, 85, of Dupree was held November 5, 2020 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Burial was in St. Basil’s Cemetery at Mossman under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge. Alphonso passed away on October 27, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canistota.
Alphonso was born August 11, 1935 at Old Agency to Gilbert and Delphine (Henessy) Garreau. He served in the Marines. He was a self taught mechanic and loved working on cars. He also worked on various ranches and at the Takini School.
Alphonso married Betty Widow and they built their home in Red Scaffold.
Alphonso is predeceased by his wife, Betty; his parents; his twin, Alphonsine Garreau Simpson; and other family members.
Alphonso came from a large family including brothers Melvin Garreau, Manson Garreau, Harold Lee, Romey Garreau, Gibson Garreau, Tracy Garreau, Gilbert Garreau Jr., Frank Garreau, and sisters Verna (Garreau) LeCompte, Alphonsine (Garreau) Simpson, Shirley (Garreau) Christenson, Faye (Walters) Ismail, Malinda (Walters) Means, Margaret (Garreau) McElmore, Arlene Garreau, Barbara Garreau and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
