Ardie passed away October 14, 2026.

She was born June 28, 1939, to Olger and Ernestina Carlson in Mobridge. She and her twin brother Arlen grew up northeast of Firesteel on the family farm, where she milked cows, butchered chickens and had adventures with her brother.

She went to country school, then attended high school in Timber Lake, graduating in 1957. She attended college in Brookings for a short time, spent some time in Aberdeen and then worked for Kesling’s in Timber Lake.

She married Doug Scott, the son of Dale and Jesse Scott, on May 27, 1960 in Pierre. Doug worked for various electrical companies, and they settled in Timber Lake, where he worked for Moreau-Grand Electric Co-op. They bought a power line construction company in 1970. Doug built power lines and Ardie did the books and worked for the post office.

Doug sold Scott’s Construction to Jim Boldt in 1983 and went into ranching and farming. Ardie started in the post office in 1967, became postmaster in 1987, and retired in 1997. She was one of the first from Timber Lake to be trained as an EMT and worked on the ambulance crew from 1978 to 1998.

They had five children: Keith (Marilyn) of Gettysburg, Terri (Gerald) of Ketchikan, AK, Arlen (Ann) of Aberdeen, Shari (Eric) of Cambridge, MN, and Jason (Kristen) of LaMars, IA. They had 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. These survive her, along with her sister-in-law, Nancy Scott of Rapid City.

She is preceded in death by her brother, parents and husband.
