Betty Elaine Solberg Fritz, 87, of Rapid City died at her home surrounded by family on March 25, 2022.
Betty was born May 26, 1934, at Glad Valley to Bert Solberg and Esther (King) Solberg Young. She was the oldest of six children; her siblings were Carol, Wayne, Denaldo, Beverly and Dan.
Betty went to school in Isabel, where she met Ervin Fritz. They were married on May 31, 1952. Betty and Ervin welcomed their first child, Kandis, in 1955 and then Kathy in 1958. Betty and Ervin moved to Mobridge, where Ervin ran a Standard oil station.
In the early 1960’s Betty moved with her family to Sturgis, and they opened Fritz’s Standard Station. Betty was the main bookkeeper for Ervin and also raised her two girls, and later raised her three granddaughters.
In her younger years, Betty was an avid gardener and canned lots of food for her family. Later in life when she and her grandkids moved to Rapid City, she was a substitute teacher.
Betty always opened her door to friends and family. She loved to have a house full of kids, who all called her grandma.
Betty is survived by her daughter Kandis (Dave) Johnson of Rapid City; sister Beverly (Lori) Lindskov of Isabel; brother Dan Solberg of Alcester; grandchildren Karen and Chris Greene of Rapid City, Kandra and Shawn Roe of Rapid City, Kalsy Brinkman and Shane Dixon of Rapid City, Hope and Rich Henk of Rapid City, Lierin Cole of Rapid City, Tifani and Colin Mack of Rapid City; 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Kathy, parents, sisters Carol and Denaldo, and brother Wayne.
