The funeral service for Burton Ducheneaux, 80, of Eagle Butte will be at 10 a.m. MT on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Timber Lake Community Center. Burial will be at the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burton passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen.
Burton James Ducheneaux was born on December 27, 1940 at Cheyenne Agency to Frederick Ducheneaux and Josephine “Annie” LeBeau. Burke, as he was often called by many, had nine siblings: Susan, LeNeta, Bryant, Carla, Flora, Elnora, Cheryl, Ellis “Pat” and Richard.
Before he turned 18, Burke was serving in the US Navy. In August 1972, he married Shirley Martin in Ft. Pierre. They had five children: Mary, Carmen, Burton Jr, Michelle and Nicole.
Burton has three grandchildren: Taylor, Mario and Remyrick, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burton is a US Navy veteran, was a former Eagle Butte City Police Officer, truck driver and co-owned and operated Lucky Lanes Lounge and Blondie’s Arcade with Shirley. He was a jack of all trades, loved horseshoes and tournaments, loved bowling with the bowling leagues and won many trophies in each. He loved to hunt, play poker and enjoyed a good prank and so much more.
Burton was preceded in death by his parents, his son Burton Jr., a few siblings and many other relatives.
For the past few years, Burke was in nursing homes and had been living at Medicine Wheel Village in Eagle Butte at the time of his passing.
Burke’s daughters are grateful for the love, care, patience, kindness, compassion, dedication and professional care he received from the staff at Medicine Wheel.
