Colt D. LeCompte

Services for Colt D. LeCompte, 38, of Eagle Butte were held Friday, November 13, 2020 at the LeCompte Ranch, rural Ridgeview, under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Colt entered the Spirit World at his home in Eagle Butte on November 7, 2020.

Colt LeCompte was born December 5, 1981 in Eagle Butte to Marvin and Dixie LeCompte. He grew up on the ranch 7 miles north of Ridgeview. He attended White Horse Day School in his elementary years. During that time, he was part of the White Horse Chiefs basketball traveling team.

Colt enjoyed spending his summers with Gabby Thompson and his brothers, where he broke horses, worked cows, and helped his grandpa Ivan LeCompte in the hay fields. When Colt attended Tiospaye Topa School he enjoyed many sports along with his brothers, his best friend Skyler Roberts and also his dad as the football coach.

Throughout his high school years Colt was part of the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Tiospaye Topa wrestling team and was a state qualifier. He was also on the Tiospaye Topa rodeo team coached by Marty Thompson. After high school he attended Si Tanka University on a football scholarship.

Colt worked various jobs with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe for many years.

His greatest blessing, his son Leighton “Slick” LeCompte, arrived in 2013 and became his little sidekick.

Grateful for sharing Colt’s life are his son, Leighton; mother Dixie; brothers Brad (CJ), Cap (Sherri), and Clint (Kelsie); sisters Chelsey and Calee; uncles Chuck (Sharon) LeCompte, Ronnie (Doretta) Bowker, Harley Bowker, Lester Bowker, Mike Rousseau (godfather), Chad (Krystal) Claymore, and Lee (Michelle) Claymore; aunts Melissa (Steve) Klein, Beth (Jake) Johnson, Susie (Jim) Shihady, Jean Bowker, Rowena Bowker, Joni (Lyle) Bowker, Dairal Firecloud, Shelly (Orville) Scott, Darlene Bowker, Lisa (Derek) Bianas, Katie Claymore Dupree, Helene Martinez, and Leatrice Penny; grandparents Ivan LeCompte, John (Mardel) Claymore, and Dorothy Bowker; nieces Taycen LeCompte, Stace LeCompte, Jace LeCompte, and Breanna LeCompte; and nephews Bret LeCompte and Jackson LeCompte.

Colt was preceded in death by his dad, Marvin; Uncle Hank, Aunt Gig, and Aunt Barb; paternal grandmother Adell Garreau LeCompte; niece Tatum LeCompte; and cousins Tyler LeCompte, Mona LeCompte, and Rick LeCompte.
