Darlene Betty Zephier was born January 8, 1932, in Lower Brule to Antoine and Victoria Zephier. She graduated from Flandreau Public School in 1950. She attended business school and worked for a short time in California.
She married Maurice Williams in 1957. They began their life together on their ranch. They lived in Crow Agency in Montana and Wewoka, OK, where Maurice worked for the BIA. After a year they moved to Eagle Butte, where Darlene worked in the school system and at BIA Land Operations and raised their four children.
When Maurice retired, they moved back to their ranch for the remainder of their years together. Darlene enjoyed her retirement. She refinished furniture, sewed, made crafts, sold Avon and spent many days visiting her children.
After Maurice passed away Darlene moved to Spearfish to be close to her children, grandchildren and medical care. She made many lasting relationships with people and the church.
Darlene was known for her generosity. If she had something extra in her purse and thought someone needed it she made every effort to help them. She felt she was blessed and wanted to pay it forward.
Grateful to have shared her life are her sons, David Zephier, Brady Williams and Carson (Samantha) Williams; daughters Sandra (James) Williams Luther and Jacqueline (Mike) Schwartz; her sisters, Evon Zephier and Charlene Wince; her brothers, Richard Zephier and Harley Zephier; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Andy Zephier, Nelson Zephier, and William Zephier, sister, Jewel Zephier, and baby Zephier.
