November 23, 1929 – December 31, 2023
Deloris Morgen, 94, of Mahto passed away December 31, 2023 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial was held January 6 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in McLaughlin followed by grave side services at the McLaughlin City Cemetery.
Deloris was born November 23, 1929 to Joseph and Ida (Schneider) Schatz in Mahto.
After graduating from high school, Deloris obtained her teaching certificate through summer school. In 1949 she married Nick Morgen. To this union six children were born: Dennis, Dennine, Dorean, David, Deanne and Debbie Jo.
Deloris was a teacher, farmer's wife, and mom, and was most known for her role as owner/operator of the Dew Drop Inn supper club in Mahto. She successfully ran this business for 35 years until her retirement.
Deloris wore many hats in her lifetime; she was town constable, mail mistress, member of the Mahto Township Board, and election board member. She served on the Retail Liquor Dealers Association and was named Retailer of the Year. She was an active member of the McLaughlin Senior Citizens and served as their treasurer. She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and of the Altar Society.
When Deloris wasn't busy with her work or family, she enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, bowling, playing cards, going to the casino, and, of course, telling stories. Her most recent adventure was a trip to the Sturgis bike rally just three months before her 94th birthday.
Deloris is survived by her daughters: Dennine Krumm of Mahto, Dorean Ragnone of Rapid City, Deanne (Rob) Mott of Mobridge, and Debbie Jo (Jim) Ross of Rapid City; six grandchildren: Nicole (Lyle) Ripplinger, Hope (Craig) Maher, Danielle (Bryan) Beaulieu, Samantha (Nick) Ragnone-Michael, Jeffrey (Deanna) Ross, and Patrick (Eleanor) Mott; nine great-grandchildren: sisters Gladys Dietrich of Miller and Lavern Hepper of Mobridge; her very dear friend, chauffeur, and casino buddy, Karen Hinsz; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ida; husband Nick; sons Dennis and David; sister Ena Ogard; brothers-in-law Alton Ogard, Elmer Dietrich and Adolph Hepper; life partner Roy Wendland and too many dear friends to mention.
All arrangements were entrusted to Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
