Dennis Madden

April 22, 1939 – March 10, 2021

Mass of Christian Burial for Dennis Madden, 81, of Mound City will be Saturday March 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. CT at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Herreid. A scriptural wake will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Dennis passed away March 10, 2021 at the Linton Hospital in Linton, ND.

Dennis Madden was born April 22, 1939 at Eureka to Michael and Ruth (Lorenzen) Madden. Dennis grew up in the Mound City area and attended rural grade school and high school at Herreid, graduating in 1957.

In 1958, Dennis joined the National Guard and served until 1962. He was called to active duty in 1961 with the Mobridge National Guard during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed in Louisiana for a year.

Dennis married Goldie Moos on December 28, 1959 and they made their home in Mound City, where Dennis worked for Goehring Oil.

Following his discharge from the military Dennis and Goldie made their home in Selby. He worked for Delzer Construction during this time. In 1968, Dennis and Goldie moved to Mound City and started Madden Motors, which Dennis ran until shortly before his passing. He repaired cars and tractors and was a Belarus tractor dealer.

While living in Mound City, Dennis served as mayor for a number of years. He was active in the Lions Club, the Wild Life Club and was a Campbell County Commissioner. Dennis was also a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Herreid.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoring old pickups.

Dennis is survived by his wife Goldie; sons, Jerry (April) Madden of Herreid, Terry (Tori) Madden of Mound City; daughter, Susan (Vernon) Brandner of Herreid; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Jan) Madden of Rock Rapids, IA and Tim Madden of Avon; brothers-in-law, Bob Frieh of New York, Tyrone (Alvera) Moos of Philip and Myron Moos of Selby; sisters-in-law, Myra (Tom) Hahne of Selby, Wanda of Selby (Roger) Moser of Bowdle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Ruth Madden; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Luella Moos; and sisters, Susan Frieh and Shirley Madden.

Military Honors will be by the Herreid American Legion Post.
