Denver passed away at his home on November 4, 2021 at the age of 74 years.

Denver was born on November 7, 1946 to John and Violet (Ochsner) Rost at Dupree. He grew up on the family ranch southwest of Isabel.

He attended grade school at the Wilson School and the Grondahl School and graduated from Isabel High School in 1964. He then went to SDSU in Brookings, graduating in 1968 with a degree in Biological Science.

He worked in Watertown for A & B Welding. From there he went to Gillette, WY doing work as a welder and then moved to Rapid City working for A & B Welding again. He decided to change his profession and get his insurance license. He started working for American Family Insurance in Rapid City in 1979 and retired in 2013.

Denver was very musically inclined and could play most instruments by ear. He especially enjoyed playing the accordion, piano and drums. The Rost band was formed by John, Kenny, Curtis and Denver. They played for many dances at the country schools in the area. When ever there was a family gathering, you would find Denver playing the accordion so everyone could dance the night away. He was also a very good dancer and could polka or waltz with anyone.

Denver’s pride and joy, his daughter, Heather, was born July 1, 1978. He was a very devoted father; he taught Heather how to fish, golf, play basketball and learn the drums. They also enjoyed playing and watching sports together, including some live football games during his visits to Colorado.

Denver was an avid Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed going to a few games. He loved most sports and enjoyed football, car racing, golf, fishing and rodeos, especially the NFR. He was a volunteer for the Rapid City Police Auxiliary for a few years and he loved to garden.

Denver is survived by his daughter, Heather Jacques of Denver, CO; his mother, Violet Rost of Belle Fourche; brothers Kenneth (Kathy) Rost of Spearfish and Curtis (Marilyn) Rost of Ellensburg, WA; sisters Marcia (Mike )Maher of Isabel, Sheri (Kent) Allen of Akron, IA and Laurie Schell of Rapid City; two uncles, Clarence (Darlene) Ochsner and Alvin Ochsner; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Dad, John Rost, in 1986, his maternal and paternal grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
