A memorial service for Dorothy Opp will be held at the Timber Lake Community Center on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. MT.
Dorothy passed away on November 29, 2023 at the age of 94.
Dorothy was born Dorothy Ann Plummer outside of Timber Lake on February 8, 1929 to Harold and Amalia (Staebler) Plummer. The Plummer family moved to Eureka and then, in 1944, to Miles City, MT. While there, Dorothy volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol and graduated from high school. She married William “Bill” Opp on September 22, 1949 in the Black Hills.
After marrying, the pair moved to Oregon and Montana, following jobs, before settling in Timber Lake in 1953 to get into the ranching business. In 1968, they bought their own place 17 miles south of town. Throughout their lives together, they raised sheep, cows, a variety of other animals, many pets, and five children.

away in 2005, Dorothy remained on the family farm. For 18 years, she stood as the head of her family and a pillar of the community. Dorothy was a woman of great strength and tenacity, who was loved and admired by many. Her kind spirit left an imprint on all whom she knew, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her five children: Duane (Peggy) Opp, Wanda Opp, Russell Opp, Conita (Tom) Jones, and Clint Opp; eight grandchildren: Lezlie (Ben) Kinsinger, Aaron (Keegan) Opp, Tammy (Randy) Richardson, Alexis (Wade) Handsaker, Grant (Elyse) Young, Ben (Emma) Young, Chase (Sabine) Jones, and Paige (Joey) Opp; six greatgrandchildren: Kealy Hill, Lucas Hill, Elon Opp, Holden Handsaker, Landon Handsaker, and Rowan Opp; and her younger sister, Twyla.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mollie; her siblings, Betty, Charles, Jean, Yvonne, Donna, and Diane; her husband Bill; and many other friends and family.
Dorothy was buried at Black Hills National Cemetery with her husband on December 4, 2023.
