Funeral services for Edward Howard Red Fox, 72, of Eagle Butte were held April 14, 2021 at the CRST Bingo Hall in Eagle Butte. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Ascension Episcopal Cemetery. at Blackfoot.
Edward passed away April 5, 2021 at the Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte.
Edward Paul Howard Red Fox was born on December 23, 1948 at the Old Cheyenne Agency Hospital to Harry and Audrey (Sand) Howard Red Fox. He grew up in Blackfoot with his grandma, Ida White Dog Sand. He attended the Cheyenne Agency School and Eagle Butte School. He was a police officer for 20 years and also worked at the school cafeteria, and at IHS as a janitor and a motor vehicle operator before retiring in 2014.
In 1972 he married Victoria Woods and to this union two daughters were born, Kimberlee and Karen.
Edward was always friendly, greeting everyone with a smile and a handshake. At a young age he enjoyed and participated in bull riding and weight lifting tournaments. He enjoyed basketball, football, softball, powwows and horseshoes.
Edward is survived by his daughters, Kimberlee Howard of Prior Lake, MN, Karen Red Fox of Eagle Butte and Kelli Roberts of Eagle Butte; a son, Harrison Red Fox of Eagle Butte; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert Red Fox, Raymond Two Crow, and Frank Sand; sisters, Caroline Sand and Ida Colby High Horse; special niece, Stacy Spotted Bear; special grandchildren, Hailey Dupris and Kentone Spotted Bear; two special children in his life, Dustin and Katie “Kathie” Ellefson; and his four beloved dogs, Rudy, Peanuts, Cool Jay, and Snoopy.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandmother Ida White Dog Sand; brothers Roger and Darrell Howard Red Fox; six children in infancy; great granddaughter Rosa’leigh Eagle; son-in-law LaTwuan Kelly; and cousin Tom “Moose” Sand.
