Sheriff James Fisher passes away at 80

Former Dewey County Sheriff James Fisher passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, at his home in Belle Fourche. He was 80 years old. Burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard. A complete obituary is on page 5.

Fisher grew up in Timber Lake and graduated from high school in 1961. After a stint in the U.S. Army, he worked for the Washington State Corrections System before he and his wife, Sylvia, purchased and operated Fisher Hardware in Timber Lake. Fisher served as Dewey County Sheriff for 14 years, from 1991 to 2005, when he retired. Sylvia Fisher passed away in 2014.
