Gary John Adams, 77, of Spearfish passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Rapid City Monument Hospital.
He was born on June 8, 1945, in Hancock, NY to Charles and Marian Adams. He was raised with three brothers and two sisters (Robert, Thomas, Timothy, Karen and Susan), and attended grade and high school in Hancock.
Gary enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 23, 1963. He spent most of his military time in Germany and Taiwan. Gary received an honorable discharge on January 14, 1968.
On January 11, 1969, Gary married Darlene Quinn of Timber Lake. They spent the next 38 years in various locations in California. They were blessed with five daughters: Joyce, Tammy, Kimberly, Julia and Sandra.
In 2007 Gary and Darlene purchased a home in Spearfish. They enjoyed many years of camping in South Dakota, also traveling to California and Arizona with their fifth wheel, and made many good friends.
Gary enjoyed playing basketball all through school and while he was in the service. He was an avid pinochle player and a mean polka dancer, back in his day. He enjoyed playing Mexican Train with friends, as well as watching his beloved New York Giants play football.
Gary is survived by his wife, Darlene of Spearfish; his daughters: Joyce Grant, Julia Adams and Sandra (Paul) Wojton, all of Spearfish and Kimberly Jones of Queen Creek, AZ; his grandchildren: Scott (Jessica) and Cody Grant; Olivia (Manny) Pardo; Cameron, Owen, Lucy and Charlie Jones; Jasmine Stewart; Noah, November, Chase and Dylan Wojton; great-grandchildren: David and John Miller; his brothers: Thomas (Joyce) Adams of Bainbridge, NY and Tim (Kathy) Adams of Corona, CA; sisters: Karen Housewright of Rialto, CA and Susan Adams of Huntington Beach, CA; and nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Bybee, his parents and his brother, Bob Adams.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, November 3, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery.
