Gerald Wayne Miller passed away on September 26, 2021 while in the care of Avera McKenna Hospital, Sioux Falls, after a lengthy illness.
Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. on October 6, 2021 at the Timber Lake Community Center and funeral services will be held on October 7, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Timber Lake Community Center with Harvey Eagle Horse officiating. Cremation will follow and ashes will be spread at a later date.
Gerald was born to Mary Ann Miller and Leo Gay on October 7, 1963 and spent his life with his relatives on the Cheyenne River and Standing Rock reservations. He shared a special relationship with his grandfather, Art Fiddler, who loved and cared for him like a son.
He attended schools in Timber Lake and Eagle Butte and later attended the Kicking Horse Job Corps Program in Ronan, MT studying to be a heavy equipment operator.
After his marriage to Mary Jane Crow he became a proud father to Jerald Jace Miller and continued to work in South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Texas. Gerald was recognized as a hunter and fisherman who never hesitated to share his blessings with friends and family.
To many of Gerald’s friends and relatives he was also known as “Frybread.”
Gerald leaves behind his mother, Mary Ann On the Tree; son, Jerald Jace Miller; former spouse, Mary Jane Miller; of Timber Lake, and two sisters, Claudia Hill, Mitchell, and Brenda Bartlett, Yankton. Gerald also had a special relationship with his uncles, Jim (Alberta) Miller, Porcupine, SD; William Miller, Fort Yates, ND; and his aunts, Claudia (Walter) Cournoyer, Colstrip, MT, Shirley Hunter, Rapid City, and Donita Mellette, Rapid City.
Casket bearers are Walter Hansen, Russell Zephier, Wylie Miller, Bill Veo, Mike Jewett and John Mestes.
Honorary pallbearers are all relatives, friends, and staff from the Neurology Unit, Avera McKenna Hospital, Sioux Falls.
