Hilda E. Landis

October 28, 1926 – June 5, 2022

Hilda Emma Landis, 95, passed on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital when her husband and sweetheart, Oscar, danced her away to heaven.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge with Kesling Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Hilda was born west of Isabel, in Ziebach County on October 28, 1926 to Alexander and Anna (Bertsch) Zulauf.

In 1927 her parents moved to a farm seven miles south of Bison, where Hilda went to a country school. Later they moved to Bison and she attended the Bison school. Her father Alexander died in 1942. At that time, her mother, Anna, moved back to Isabel. Hilda finished school in Isabel.

Hilda moved to Mobridge to work at the old Railroad Hospital. It was there she met the love of her life, Oscar Landis. Oscar had something in his eye and had to go to the hospital, where he met Hilda. He used to say that he thought he had something in his eye until he went to the hospital and then really had something in his eye once he met Hilda. In July of 1945, Oscar went into the service.

They made their home on a farm 12 miles west of Mobridge for a short time. They then moved to Mobridge about a year later. They had one daughter, Judy Richey, born on August 6, 1950.

Hilda worked for Kenny Thompson’s Laundromat and later did housework and painting for seven years. She worked at the Ben Franklin store for Walter Tutland and then for Doug and Lucy Nelson for a total of 12 years. After she retired, she stayed home and made quilts, crafts, afghans, and

After she retired, she stayed home and made quilts, crafts, afghans, and liked to draw and sketch. She always had a big garden and flowers every year.

She loved spending time with her granddaughters, Kelli and Kari Richey, when they would come stay for the summer, and would take them to get ice cream and go shopping and to rummage sales.

Hilda was always ready for photos with her hair, makeup, clothing, and jewelry always on point. Faith was a huge part of her everyday life. In later years, Hilda loved bingo and scratch tickets, and occasional trips to the casino.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Landis; son-in-law Charlie Richey; her parents; her sisters Elsie, Esther, Francis, Martha, and Tillie, and her brother Carl; in-laws John and Lena Landis, Lenhard and Hilda Landis, Clayton and Alma Skillingstad, Emil and Elenora Pfitzer, Norman and Clara Landis, Alvin Seiler, Wally Walz, and Alvina Harp. Hilda was survived by her daughter, Judy Richey (Lyle Lutz) of Mobridge, granddaughters,Kelli Richey (Tim Flow) and Kari Richey of Bismarck, ND; Lyle’s daughter Tina Globoker (John) and granddaughter Hope of Byron Center, MI; her sister, Irene (Hirsch) Stone of Rapid City; her brother, David of Rapid City; in-laws, Irene Walz of Aberdeen, Junior and Phyllis Prasek of Selby, Albert Harp of Rapid City; and many nieces and nephews.
