Ike Halfred, Sr., 52, of Eagle Butte, passed away August 5, 2026, at Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte.
Funeral services were held August 15 at the CRST Bingo Hall, Eagle Butte.
Ike A. Halfred Sr. was born to Merrill Frank Halfred and Florence LeBeau Halfred on July 25, 1974. He graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School on May 17, 1992.
Ike worked at Lynn’s Super Valu and helped move into the new store known as Lakota Thrifty Mart. He later attended Black Hills State University for one year. He then worked in construction with his cousin, Denny, in Hot Springs. After returning home, he worked in various positions in construction.
He later moved to Aberdeen to assist his eldest sister with her children while she completed her BSN. While in Aberdeen, he worked with a local construction company. When his sister moved to Minnesota, he moved with her and worked as floor security at Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls, MN.
He returned to Cheyenne River and worked in construction with his younger brother Mike at the Costello Apartments and the Medicine Wheel. His brother introduced him to the electrical field by showing him basic electrical work while at Costello’s in 2003 and 2004. He later attended SiTanka College with Larry Goldsmith instructing.
Ike had a strong knowledge of math, equations, geometry, and the required courses for electrical work. In August 2005, Ike started working with Todd’s Electric and the Indian Health Service as an electrician. He worked at the old IHS then moved to the current IHS-CRHC as one of the electricians in the maintenance department.
He was athletic and played on a few softball teams while in Minnesota. He coached his four eldest children at the Wolves Den Boxing Club. Ike made many trips with the boxing club, both in-state and out-of-state watching matches and supporting his sons.
Ike is survived by his children: Tyrell Kingbird, Gabriel, Isaac Jr. LilyJo (Norris), and David Halfred; their mother Crystal (Kris) Kingbird; grandchildren Delmar, Olivia, and Xander Jr.; mother Florence Halfred; sisters Sharon Halfred and, Karon Buffalo; brother Michael (Mike) Halfred Sr.; and their children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Merrill F. (Bugs) Halfred; sister Deborah Halfred; paternal grandparents Isaac William Halfred and Josephene Berry Halfred; maternal grandparents Sullivan Henry LeBeau and Lillian Mae Shaving LeBeau; paternal uncles Barry Halfred and Bill (William) Halfred; and maternal uncle Samuel LeBeau.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
