James Lightfield Jr., 70, of Faith passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Faith Community Center in Faith. Burial with military honors was at Monument Hill Cemetery near the Ben Ash Monument west of Maurine.
Jim “Whitey” was born May 18, 1952 to James Edward Lightfield Sr. and Bernice Dorothy Condon in Dupree. He was raised on the family ranch at Red Scaffold. He attended school in Red Scaffold, Eagle Butte and Idaho. His sophomore year he moved to Faith, where he graduated in 1971.
He married Bobbie Charmagne Price on July 9, 1971. They made their home in Faith. Jim did basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and completed Advanced Individual Training and moved Maryland, where he was stationed at Ft. Meade. After

his discharge from the Army in 1974 they moved back to South Dakota and Jim began working at Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital in Sturgis as a nurse’s aid.
In 1986 Jim found a new job and they moved back to Faith, where he worked for the CRST Tribe as a game warden and did some shingling jobs. He later took a position at IHS as a custodian and driver.
Jim is survived by his wife Bobbie Charmagne; sons Troy (Sarah) and Travis (Crystal); daughter Takayla (Jacob); seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his four-legged friend, Hanky; brother Ron Eagle Chasing; and sisters Kay (Jerry) Palmer, Jo Thompson, Angel Kennedy, Gary (brother-in-law), and Karen, Val (sister-in-law) and Doug; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Pat Eagle Chasing, and Dale Lightfield and in-laws, Bob and Earleen Price.
